According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Manchester Grand Hyatt is being boycotted by LGBT groups because owner Doug Manchester has contributed $125,000 to Proposition 8, the California ballot initiative launched to ban same-sex marriage in the state.
It's probably too late for ASAE & the Center to do anything official other than express disapproval. but it's not too late for indviduals to act. Those of us who are attending the meeting can transfer our registrations elsewhere. Remember that the deadline for changing your reservation without paying a financial penalty is Monday, July 21.
As of 1 pm EDT on Thursday, July 10, only the Westin San Diego has available rooms, but as the July 21st deadline approaches, my bet is that additional, closer rooms will open up.
